Things about scott,

Look around, listen, take a deep breath, smell.

Art is everywhere in
all aspects and senses. Ever since I've gotten behind a camera my
appreciation for all scenses and senses in my life have greater
meaning. I'm one who takes responsible chances yet enjoys trying new
things in my life. When someone you've never met appreciates something
you've visualized, it's both humbling and completely satisfying.

Thank you for taking time out of your life to visit a snaphot of mine.

Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon is one of the most breathtaking and tranquil places on earth.  Gently carved from the Navajo sandstone over the course of countless millenniums, the slot canyons are majestic with narrow passages.  There are 2 different canyons,  Upper and Lower Antelope.  Each contains the hidden “slots” carved from the swirling sandstone, and both drain from the south into Lake Powell (once the Colorado River.)

The only way to get into the caves is through a photo tour. I had no idea you had to make an appointment months in advance  as everything was booked up.  I had to do some serious sweet talking and flip someone a $20.00. Well worth it!

There were 6 people in my group with 2 guides. We traveled about 25 minutes off road in a Chevy Tahoe. Once you get to the cave there’s at least a 100 people waiting outside. The bad part is we’re all going for the same shot. There were 2 fights and lots of yelling. Our guide was slick as we walked around the others and headed towards the back of the cave where he found us a better shot. We posted up tripods and waited about 30 minutes for the sun to make it’s way over.  Picture #1 is that shot. I can’t explain all the different colors, you have to see it to believe it. The black and white photo is hanging in the Cirello gallery. www.cirellogallery.com

Thanks for visiting

Yesterday, I taught my first photography Workshop. I was fortunate to teach such a brilliant group. We started off going over camera settings and then a photoshoot with our patient models. Here are some photos from the day. Remember photography is fun, so have some fun and don’t be scared of your camera.

Highway one

About a month ago the Papek’s took a road/photography trip from San Diego to Monterey, California. I’m embarrassed to say living in Cali for 10 years, it was our first time.

It would be easy to get lost up there for a good amount of time. Maybe next time.  Thanks for stopping by

Welcome to my first ever Photography Workshop

Photography is fun. Everybody has some type of camera with them pretty much  all the time.  Thanks to some persistent people, I’m doing a 3 hour Workshop in Omaha that targets beginners. We’ll be focusing on taking pictures, not talking camera geek talk. Every type of camera is accepted. See below for more info. Papekworkshop

Cox Classic 2010

Photographing golf is hard. No seriously, it’s one of the hardest events I’ve ever photographed. After looking through all of the photos I learned what not to do next year. I did however meet some incredible people and became attached to these guys . It’s hard not to when you see how good their golf game is yet they’re 1 or 2 shots away from being on the pga tour. My mother has hosted golfers at her house for the last 7 years so I got to spend some bbq time with a couple of the guys on tour. Man what great golf stories. Ken Duke was one of the golfers staying with my mother this year and he rocked. Google his name if you have some time to kill, I did.

1 fine storm

In my days of being a photographer I’ve learned a couple of things.

1. You’ll take more bad photos than good

2. You must take your camera everywhere you go even though it kind of sucks

3. You must have a patient wife or husband

4. If you are persistent it will pay off.

The first picture is from a memorable San Diego evening. January 1 of 2010 was an unbelievable sunset. It was my 20th day in a row of heading to the beach hoping for that  magical evening. People still talk about that sunset. Last week we had a memorable evening in Omaha. It was so damn humid during the day as I almost passed out from running. This weird storm rolled in and then all of a sudden it broke off. I was kind of prepared and rolled out with my camera’s and headed for the closest open space to set up a tripod. Ok first off, I completely forgot about bug spray. Living in San Diego for so long made me forget about mosquitoes. I was so into getting the shot that I wasn’t concerned with the critters knawing at my legs. I’ve been paying for it ever since. Anyways, with a storm like that the scenes change by the minute as you’ll see in this series of photos. I’m blow away on how fast each scene changes.

Thanks for stopping by and we’ll talk soon

Scott Papek is now open in Omaha also

Hey, how are you? I apologize for not posting in a while but there’s a pretty good excuse. After a very long thought out process, we decided it made sense for us to buy a house in Omaha, Nebraska. I was born in raised in Omaha, Nebraska. It’s so interesting after being gone for 15 years how different but still the same the city is. I have fresh eyes and a different perspective of my hometown. I’m hoping you’ll appreciate my style that was completely influenced from San Diego.  I will continue to travel back and forth between Omaha and San Diego. Not so bad on my end, right? To get a little ahead, I’m hoping to open an art gallery in Omaha this spring. Until then, I’m going to focus on weddings, portraits and family pictures. I’m available in Omaha beginning next weekend July 24th. Please feel free to email me or call.

Thanks and hopefully we can talk soon.

Melanie and Craig

Here is another thing about photography that nobody tells you about. You must adapt to any situation as it’s not always perfect. Believe it or not the worst time to photograph is during the middle of the day.

Melanie and Craig’s engagement shoot turned into a family photoshoot which was awesome. They’re all really witty so I had to being my “A GAME”.  Melanie and Craig get married this Saturday and I’ll be documenting it. You’ll get a sneak peak soon.

second life

Today I began my second life with an open mind.  My first life as a full time sound designer/ creative services director has changed to part time. I’m going to focus more on photography and life. Julie and I were back in Omaha over Memorial weekend, how incredible was the weather? I found this peaceful barn North of Wahoo.

Thanks

Scott
